WESTERN VISAYAS – A total of (17) dental practitioners from the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) were the participants of the virtual 10-hr Basic OSH Training for Safety Officer 1 dated November 23-24, 2021. This training is pursuant to the Republic Act No. 11058, otherwise known as the “Act Strengthening the OSH Standards and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof,” and its implementing rules and regulations (DOLE Department Order No. 198-19).
The Philippine Dental Association (PDA) is a non-stock, non-profit association of professional dentists that maintains the standards of the dental profession through progressive dental education, encourages scientific researches and programs, and safeguards dental health supporting sound dental health legislation and public health programs in the Philippines.
The training program was welcomed by the OSHC Unit VI OIC, Mr. Melveen M. Melocoton and OSHC - Health Control Division Chief, Doctor Maria Beatriz Villanueva.
“Hopefully all throughout this training, you will be able to find ways on how to assure the safety and health of our clinics, and clients as well, while we are trying to incorporate the new normal to our workplaces,” emphasized by Mr. Melocoton.
“I hope you would be sharing your best practices amongst yourselves because this is a homogenous training intervention being given to dentists, and you have similarities in some operations, you have similarities in what you are doing… I hope you will actively participate and share experiences with one another on how you were able to cope with the guidelines set by the government. Take this opportunity and grow from whatever it is that you will be learning here and enhance your competence,” added by Dr. Villanueva.
As it is important to provide safe services to their clients, it is also vital that dental professionals must develop their OSH policies and programs to ensure safe and healthy working conditions to evade themselves to any hazards that could result to harm or endanger them.
Pursuant to the directive of DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III to enhance workplace health and safety, and ease the burden on micro, and small enterprises (MSEs) especially in this time of pandemic, the OSHC will continue to conduct series of mandatory BOSH training schedules for MSEs in need of safety officers for both compliance and the adoption of a zero-accident culture in their workplaces.
