2nd Quarterly OSHNET Meeting for 2021

 




The Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) Western Visayas, in partnership with OSHNetworks and stakeholders, conducted its quarterly OSHNET Meeting on March 30, 2021 via teleconference using the Zoom App.

The agenda of the meeting were the conduct of Free 10-hour BOSH for Safety Officer 1 in Western Visayas, the conduct of the BOSH for Safety Officer 2 Training for Government Sector, the upcoming plans and activities of OSHNET and the Occupational Safety and Health Week on April 26-30, 2021.

The meeting was welcomed by Executive Director of OSHC Engr. Noel C. Binag and graced with an inspirational message by DOLE VI Regional Director Engr. Cyril L. Ticao. It was attended by the Department of Trade and Industry Region VI, Civil Service Commission Region VI, Boracay Safety and Health Network (BOSHNET), Safety Organization of Negros Occidental (SONO), Western Visayas Safety and Health Network (WVOSHNET) and Philippine College of Occupational Medicine (PCOM) Panay Chapter.


Congratulations to 44 Newly Certified Safety Officers!


The Occupational Safety and Health Center Region 6 conducted its first FREE Online BOSH for SO1 Training to affected MSMEs in Western Visayas with 44 participants on March 25-26, 2021. The BOSH for SO1 Training is an 8-hour OSH Orientation for establishments in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises with the need for a SAFETY OFFICER 1 (SO1).

The training also included a 2-hour Training of Trainers which was designed to widen the base of qualified and competent OSH trainers and features discussions and skill-building activities in the development, conduct, and management of OSH courses.

OSHC-6 offers free safety and health audit for manufacturing plant

WESTERN VISAYAS – The Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) provided a free safety and health audit for New Panay Agri-Ventures Development, Inc., a manufacturer of animal feeds for swine, poultry and game birds for Panay Island and other neighboring islands in the country. The manufacturing plant has been operating since 1990 and due to its rapid expansion activities, sought for the assistance for a safety and health audit to cater the demands their stakeholders while assuring safe and healthy working conditions for all their workers.

The audit team was led by OSHC-Region 6 OIC Melveen Melocoton together with four OSH technical team members, namely Nellyn Joy Valenzuela, Engr. Narciso Pasuelo, Engr. Maximo Pareja, and Engr. Wesley Welfredo Dulla. The team audited four major areas in OSH such as administrative requirements, safety control programs, environment control programs, and health control programs. Areas audited were the warehouses, machineries, admin offices, health, and welfare facilities of the company, among others.

 

“Ang aton na safety and health audit ay gina obra hindi para pangitaan kamo sang pagpanglabag at ma multhan kamo sang DOLE. Ang ini na audit ay gin obra naton para mabuligan ang kompaniya sa pag pa husto at improbar sang programa para sa kaluwasan at ikaayo nga lawas sang tanan na trabahador,” said Melveen Melocoton to the management of New Panay Agri-Ventures Development. 

“We really appreciate the efforts of the safety and audit team for providing us a comprehensive viewpoint of our current workplace safety and health programs and policies. Your audit findings and recommendations will surely help our company in assessing what else we could improve and provide,” said HR Supervisor Jessa Jacintos.

Presently, the OSHC-6 is providing free safety training and technical assistance to distressed companies on OSH compliance pursuance to the Department of Labor and Employment – Department Order No. 198-18 series of 2018, otherwise known as the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Republic Act 11058 “An Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof.”

𝗢𝗦𝗛𝗖 𝟲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗞𝗮𝗺𝗢𝗦𝗛𝘁𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀

WESTERN VISAYAS – The Occupational Safety and Health Center successfully conducted the fourth episode of its KamOSHtahan sa Rehiyon 6 – PagOSHwag Session with the theme, “Occupational Health Practitioners Uniting Towards a Healthy Culture in Western Visayas,” via teleconference last February 23, 2021.

With nearly 300 participants, the webinar on the vital roles of occupational health practitioners in OSH compliance and culture was welcomed by the OSHC Executive Director Engr. Noel C. Binag and with the inspirational message of the DOLE-Regional Office 6 Director Engr. Cyril L. Ticao.

“During this pandemic period, our occupational health personnel play a very critical role in the prevention and control of illnesses and injury in the workplace and most especially the Covid-19 pandemic. We need your technical expertise, people who are expert in occupational health who are capable of helping us ensure that the workplace is safe and healthy,” shared by Engr. Noel C. Binag 

Moreover, Engr. Granadillos also shared the good news that the center is now offering free trainings to everyone. “Now that we are in the pandemic, we offer all our training courses free of charge para sa inyong lahat,” said by Engr. Granadillos.

The participants were informed by topics on Guidelines in DOLE-OSHC Health Practitioner Accreditation by Dr. Maria Revelyn B. Galura of OSHC, Duties of Occupational Health Personnel in COVID-19 Prevention and Control by OSH Practitioner Janeby J. Sun, and Roles of Occupational Health Personnel in DOLE OSH Reportorial Documentation by Mark James S. Andayog, Officer-in-Charge of OSHC Region 5.

The session was attended by the company doctors, company nurses, engineers, owners/heads, HR managers, supervisors, occupational health personnel, OSH compliance officers, public health workers, OSH professionals, and the academe. 

The KamOSHtahan: PagOSHwag Session OSHC-REU6 is a series of webinars on sectoral-based advocacy related to compliance and culture that aims to gather all OSH advocates and champions and provide a setting for discussions on current situations and best practices in the region.
